2. How much water should you drink every day?
Eight glasses a day. Not exactly. For some, that quantity might be just the right amount. But as you may know, so far, there's no universal solution for everyone.
You're a unique human being. Therefore, you need special care.
A more accurate way to determine how much water you should drink is by your weight. You should drink a liter (32 oz) of water for every 20 kg (45 lbs) of your weight.
Now you know: hydration is a crucial part of your fitness progress. Also, you can calculate how much water you should drink daily.
Okay, but most of the drinks contain water. Does this mean that every drink will hydrate you?
3. Which drinks won’t hydrate you?
Not every drink supports you like water. Be aware that some drinks not only do not hydrate you but just the opposite. They dehydrate your body, making your mouth feel dry.
The bad news is those drinks are favorites for most people. The good news is you can still keep on drinking them. Just grab a glass of water too, or limit their consumption.
Don’t worry, I’m not telling you to stop drinking coffee. I would never do this. Just be mindful that you can add something to it to support your new hydration goals.
When you drink your morning coffee, grab a glass or a bottle of water. This way you’ll still enjoy the magical drink that wakes you up, and you’ll get a hydration boost too.
Alcohol – one more redpoint for this guy. To prove my point, let’s do a little experiment. If you go out this weekend and have a drink (or two), the morning after you’ll feel your mouth much drier.
If you go to bed without having a beer or cocktail, you won’t feel the same dryness. Observe, and you’ll feel the difference.
Don’t cut alcohol entirely out of your diet. Be mindful that drinking more of it dehydrates you.
Therefore, try to consume your cocktails with a glass of water. Also, drink more water before going to bed after a night out.
This way you’ll give your body a little help towards hydration, and you’ll feel much better the following morning.

Simple tactics and habits to drink more water
There is no doubt: water is the best way to keep your body hydrated. So here are a few habits you can build to drink more daily:
Get a nice water bottle that will stimulate you to drink more.
Put the water bottle on your desk or somewhere you can see it. This way it'll be all day around you, reminding you to stay hydrated.
Put reminders on your phone or smartwatch. It'll notify you all day long, and soon your reminders will become habits.
Keep your water in a transparent bottle. This way you see exactly how much more you have left. Also, you have the idea of how much water you’re drinking.
What if you don't like plain water?
OMG, Mariya, that sounds great. My only trouble is: I don’t drink water.
I hear you, my friend.
Hydratation might sound easy for you if you like the plain flavor (or should I say none). But if you're not a fan of flavorless drinks, you might have a problem. I got you covered on this one too.
Check out my simple tactics for staying hydrated, which doesn’t include drinking plain water:
Drink herbal teas, both hot or iced. There are various flavors, so experiment and find the one that you enjoy.
Consume fruits and veggies with high water content like watermelon, strawberries, cucumber. You can try implementing those in your snacks.
For example, have some yogurt with strawberries or snack on some hummus with cucumber or celery. If you haven’t checked my Healthy Tasty and Quick Snacks, now is the time.
Add on a smoothie to your diet. It’s healthy, delicious, full of nutrients, highly hydrating, and can have a different flavor every time.
Have some soup for lunch or dinner.
In the summer, a gazpacho might be just what you need on a hot day. It’ll cool you down while hydrating your body and making you feel refreshed.
During the winter, there’s nothing more soothing than a bowl of warm soup. It makes you feel cozy while it keeps your body warm and hydrated.
The options above are extra if you struggle with your daily water goal intake. Don’t quit drinking water. Just find the balance, make your water fun, and enjoy some alternatives like soups and smoothies.
If you’re taking one step at a time, I challenge you. For the upcoming week or month (it’s up to you) to monitor how much water you drink. And try to increase it. This will be your next step towards your healthier and happier self.
