How to Build a Healthy Smoothie That Tastes Delicious

Do you enjoy quick, healthy, and easy meals?

A smoothie is one of the most basic nutritious meals. But, isn't it a little difficult to make a healthy smoothie that tastes delicious? Not any longer.

The smoothie guide you need in your life.

Save it for later.

Let me introduce you to the guide you need in your life: How to build a healthy smoothie that tastes delicious.

Smoothies are a quick and easy meal that can be made in less than 5 minutes at home. Alternatively, pick one up on your way to work. However, we'll get to the store-bought options later.

They are also the perfect budget-friendly breakfast or afternoon snack

A smoothie is a great food option when you have fitness goals like losing weight or gaining muscle.

So how to build a smoothie that supports your health goals but at the same time tastes good?

You need to follow only two simple rules to build a healthy smoothie.

Rule number 1

Make sure you know all the ingredients that are in your smoothie.

I promised you I’ll go back to the store-bought options, right?!

There’s nothing wrong with buying a smoothie rather than making it. We're all having a busy schedule. Sometimes you don't have time for meal prepping

The only thing you want to be sure of is all the ingredients that go into that smoothie.

Sometimes, a smoothie may have too many ingredients that don’t support your health goals.

As I mentioned, a smoothie is a great, nutritious food option. But, sometimes, a smoothie may have too many ingredients that don’t support your health goals.

Many healthy bars and stores that sell smoothies make them with juice, ice cream, sugar, or other sweeteners. Be careful with those ingredients.

They add up A LOT to your daily calorie intake.

If someone tells you a particular food is healthy, don't take this as the absolute truth. Before consuming or buying something, make sure it actually is.

And most importantly, it supports your health goals.

On the other hand, if you’re preparing your smoothie at home, you’re in charge of all the ingredients.

I encourage you to try and make a smoothie or two. If something is on your priority list, you'll find time for it.

You can also experiment with different flavors and make them entirely for your taste preferences, consistency, etc.

Experiment with the smoothie flavors and find the one you will love.

All you need to make a great smoothie is a great blender. My favorite ones are Ninja. I’ve used them for the past three years and cannot recommend them more.

If you need extra help in the kitchen, those food prep tools will come in handy.

Rule Number 2

The nutrients you should add to make a healthy and well-balanced smoothie.

To make a healthy smoothie, you should add the proper ingredients.

If you want to have a smoothie as a meal or even a snack, you have to make sure it’s satiating. You don’t want to be craving something else after it.

Make your healthy smoothies satiating with the proper nutrients.

The first nutrient a smoothie should have is protein.

Protein sources you can add to your smoothies are Greek yogurt, protein powder, cottage cheese, silken tofu.

Most people are not protein-deficient. However, they don’t reach their recommended daily protein intake.

Try to add a protein source to all your meals, including snacks. Protein is good for you because it keeps you satiated without adding an excessive amount of calories to your meals.

The second essential ingredient is liquid.

It can be just water (I recommend using water as your liquid if you’ve already added Greek yogurt), dairy or non-dairy milk, coconut water, etc.

Experiment and find whether you prefer your smoothie more or less thicker. The less liquid you add, the denser it is.

The next nutrient is healthy fat.

Fats do increase the number of calories. However, healthy fats are an essential part of a well-balanced diet.

They help you absorb some vitamins (like vitamin A and K), support your cellular and hormonal health, as well as your body temperature.

If you want a detailed article about healthy fats and their benefits, drop me a comment.

You will need to add just a spoonful of healthy fat to your smoothie. It will improve its taste and increase the satiation factor.

Great healthy fat options are nuts, nut butter, chia, seeds, hemp hearts, etc.

I love topping my smoothies with all nuts and seeds options, and I am adding nut butter directly to the smoothie while blending it.

The third essential nutrient you need is carbohydrates.

Most of the time, use fruits as your carbohydrate source. They are sweet and delicious, up-leveling your smoothie taste.

You can add either fresh or frozen fruits. For a thicker consistency, I prefer using frozen fruits. My bank account likes it, too.

The final ingredient to add is optional. However, it can enhance the health benefits of your smoothie.

Try adding a handful of veggies or a spoonful of greens powder.

Vegetables are great in smoothies. You can’t taste them, but they improve the nutritional value.

If you struggle to eat enough veggies, adding them in a smoothie is the best solution.

Most people struggle to get the daily recommended intake of 4-5 veggies per day. Adding a vegetable to a smoothie can improve your overall health.

If you still feel anxious about vegetables in your drink, I get it. Another way is to add greens supplement powder.

Greens powders usually include a mix of vegetables and plants in powder form. It’s kind of hard to find one that tastes good or has no taste at all.

The one I use is Gorgeous Greens by Naked Harvest. It comes in two flavors: Very Vanilla (it almost has no taste) or Mango Magic (you can drink this one just with water, it's still delicious).

I have seen many people recommend 1st Form Greens and Reds. I’ve read numerous positive reviews and am sure they’re another great option.

What about you: do you use a greens supplement, and if yes, which one? Let me know in the comments.

And this, my friend, wraps up the ingredients you need to make a healthy smoothie that tastes amazing.

Start experimenting, using your imagination, and build different healthy smoothies that are, at the same time, delicious.

Therefore, I’m sharing with you my top three healthy smoothie recipes. And yes, they do taste amazing.
